AMBCC Fall Sahavas Sept 23-25, 2016

We are very pleased and excited to welcome our special guests Davana Brown & Bobbi Bernstein to Chicago for our Fall Sahavas on September 23-25th,  at our Hillside Center. Please mark your calendars now and stay tuned for registration details in the coming weeks. Please see Davana & Bobbi’s biographical information below, beautifully illustrating their love and dedication in sharing & serving Meher Baba’s Love for many years. We look forward to an exciting and rewarding Sahavas! (Please share this email with your groups – thank you!)

Davana Brown: For the past thirty-five years Davana has lived in India as a spiritual trainee under the auspices of the Avatar Meher Baba Trust. She describes her life as “the impossible become possible by His grace”. During those years, she has been blessed to try and be of service to Baba’s Meherazad men and women mandali in whatever ways were possible; helping Dr. Goher in the Meher Free Dispensary, trying to be of help to Mehera and the women mandali in Baba’s household, and for the last eighteen years of Eruch’s life until he passed away on 31st August 2001, helping him in whatever ways he wished and needed. Davana’s life of love and service stands in testimony to Baba’s promise to us all that God hears the longings of our hearts.

Davana&Eruch2Davana will share many stories of her experiences in India, and what she learned from serving and being in close proximity to Meher Baba’s direct disciples and Mandali.

Bobbi Bernstein is a musician, singer, songwriter and former librarian, living in North Myrtle Beach, SC since 1985. She has performed and jammed at the Meher Spiritual Center, Meherabad and Meherazad, and at other Baba places and gatherings since the early 1970’s. Her Baba connection began in Albany, NY through Ken Lux, and Darwin and Jeanne Shaw in Schenectady, NY. One evening, Jeanne asked her to set a Rabindranath Tagore poem to music, and that began her songwriting adventure. Darwin’s sublime Discourse meetings directly inspired her first original piece, “Just Love You”. Since then she has written “That Extra Mile, ”The Real Thing Calypso,” “Meherabad Meherazad,” “Dress Your Soul With Baba,” “Baba’s Adele,” and many more songs for the Beloved.

BobbiPhotoBobbi grew up in Union, NJ, just 20 miles from the Big Apple and Broadway. Her parents loved show music and their favorite song was “Begin the Beguine”. Bobbi has always included the Great American Songbook in her repertoire, by songwriters and lyricists such as Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Rodgers and Hammerstein, as well as more recent songs that also reflect Meher Baba’s love and humor. A percussionist as well as a piano and keyboard player, Bobbi has written an eclectic mix of songs with jazz, blues, Latin, rock, pop and classical influences. While living in Nyack, NY, she had the great opportunity of meeting Big Chief Moore, a trombonist who played with Louis Armstrong in the 1950’s. Performing with Big Chief in his retirement years, she learned many New Orleans jazz songs. Bobbi’s earliest musical influence however, was her mother, who from age four was able to play piano “by ear.” Her style was stride piano, and she and Bobbi enjoyed playing duets together.

The Chicago Sahavas will be a homecoming for her, since Bobbi was an informal guest of the group many years ago. Some of the people who were there at that time were Cookie Schefris, Ellis Pines, Michael Kovitz, Richie Goldman, Judy Gregory, and “the Kleiner”. She even got to hear piano man David Miotke playing in a small club. She remembers enjoying an unusually warm June in the Windy City, and riding in an open convertible with some of the group, while singing the praises of Chicago. She says that it will be a great joy to sing the praises of Meher Baba and Chicago this coming September.

April 2012 – AMBCC News & Updates

April 18, 2012

Dear Members & Friends of Avatar Meher Baba Center of Chicago,

AMBCC MOVES TO A NEW LOCATION – In January, 2012, we were informed by our landlady, that due to overall financial difficulties with her buildings, she had to make the difficult decision to rent our space out to another party for a 50% increase in rent…  This announcement, though unexpected, started us on a flurry of activity to search and find another suitable location to rent. After a long search and a few failed attempts, we finally found a nice space in an office building suite in the beautiful suburb of Oak Park, close to the city as well as more centrally located for our members in the greater Chicagoland area and suburbs.

A special thank you to Denise, Jonathan, Marvin, Jim, Admir, Christian, Dhyana, Atul, and Ritu for all your help in making the move into our new home a smooth and speedy transition.

And we also thank you Sherry for providing your commercial space to AMBCC at a reduced rent… we appreciate everything you have done to facilitate our start up, and everything you have generously shared with us. We invite you to feel welcome as a member of our Baba family at our new place in Oak Park. Jai Baba!

YARD SALE – As part of the move to the new location, and in order to travel more lightly, we had a final blow out yard sale last weekend.  Thank you all who donated so generously to make this and previous yard sales a success! Thank you Denise, Michelle, Marvin, John, Jim, Admir, Atul, Ritu, Dhyana, and our newest visitor, Julian for all the help with the yard sale… Since we do not have basement storage space availability in the new location, we are out of the yard sale fundraising ability for some time… The remaining items were donated to various charities and libraries in Chicago & Lisle. Thank you Baba for all the sanskaras that went with our donations of worldly goods…!

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS – We will resume our regular meetings at our new location starting April 24th with our bi-weekly Discourse meetings. A new (partial) quarterly schedule of events has been posted on our web site www.ambcc.net – please check it often as updates are being posted as plans are finalized…

***Special Note – We are inviting all our members to participate in our Baba Center programming… If you would like to host or suggest a special Baba meeting, guest, or event, please call or email the Program Chairman Michelle Shafer, or one of the other committee members, Fereshteh, Jonathan, or Denise.

Meherwan Merchant Visits Chicago – Please save the dates, May  21-28th. A detailed schedule of activities for that week will be forthcoming soon.

CALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND DONATIONS – We are most grateful to Baba for a renewed opportunity to continue with our activities at our new location… we had a great year and a half on Milwaukee Ave, with our regular meetings, an amazing Sahavas, two wonderful music programs, many visitors and guests, and other wonderful meetings in celebration and sharing of Baba’s message of love and truth…and we are looking forward to many more such events and meetings in Oak Park…

This is a great time and opportunity to renew your pledge and commitment to our Center, and to help us replenish our funds to meet the ongoing expenses, and to continue to provide a space for future Baba events… Your monthly, quarterly, or one-time donations can be made to:

AMBCC – c/o F. Azad, 6710 Breckenridge Rd., Lisle, IL 60532 – or visit us online at www.ambcc.net and use Paypal or credit card to make your donation.

NOTE ON 501C3 FILING AND APPROVAL – We are still waiting for our Federal 501(C)3 tax exempt status approval… which should be forthcoming any time now. We filed in Dec, and they said it would be 3 to 4 months after our filing… We were then informed in January that the fee had increased to $800, and we submitted the difference at that time… that could put our approval into May. If you have any questions regarding this point, please feel free to contact our diligent Secretary & Treasurer, Jim Knutson.

In His Constant Care,

Subject: Beautiful pictures – very, very fortunate – “amar”

Beloved Avatar Meher Baba Ki Jai!

My dearest Laughing Mother,

I received your loving email dated 20 September, with your Chicago Urban Sahavas Report. Thank you, thank you, thank you for such a gift from you and from all who joined the program. Now they have become “amar,” immortal. They will be with me all the time, in my heart. What a connection – internal. Nobody will know the effect of this connection, but the will get the benefit direct. I not only pray for them, but so long as I am alive, I will go on praying every day.

So my Mummy Fereshteh, you are really very, very fortunate. You are responsible for this, whatever you are doing. Jai ho! Jai Ho!! Jai Ho!!! Jai Jai kar Ho! In my treasury box, you will always be there, along with your companions, and you don’t know what my prayer does.

But the best thing is the direct approach to Baba. Just leave everything to Him and do whatever you are doing. You and all your companions have come in contact with Baba and have the direct approach to Him.

Such beautiful pictures of the group! Jai ho! Jai Ho!! Jai Ho!!! Jai Jai kar Ho yours, and all those who are with you in the pictures!  Jai ho! Jai Ho!! Jai Ho!!! Jai Jai kar Ho!

I have sent the King of Chicago (Jordan) to attend the program and just bow down to everyone, and he will do. The report is coming to me that he is doing this, without sparing anyone. He also has a Queen (Roberta). He is the King of Chicago. So you may laugh at him, or praise him, he will go on bowing down to each one. Such a King who comes here, spends six months here with me, and goes back to Chicago.

The Queen is also good, very, very good, the best. She also does not care for anything – India! She has concern with India. Such a Queen and King – impossible to get. They have so much concern about Baba – just Baba. Six months!

There was another Queen of New York (from Chicago). She is still here, and after two weeks she will go to New York direct and take her seat there. Nobody knows her in New York. She is going direct to New York, and for the first time. Previously, she would come together with King and Queen of Chicago to see me. She is still here, but she will take the charge after two weeks in New York. She is happy. She does not feel shy, because nobody knows her. This is the first time she will go to New York and take her seat. Maharani! Anna Prescott.

Such persons are with me, all Queens, and seven Queens are with me. They are permanent. They will not go anywhere, and King also is here. He has to take care of seven Queens. He cannot move his feet away from me, because he is duty-bound.

So when the King of Chicago bows down to you, don’t think that he is doing this. He is doing it because of my order. It is for you all to learn from him. Why is he doing this? Under order. I am happy that I get good report about him. They are working under order and they have no idea what they are earning while living there. They think, “I am serving Him…” But even if you try to know what it means, you will not know – so better not to try!

Jai Ho! Jai Ho!! Jai Ho, my dearest Laughing Mother, and all dear ones who attended the Chicago Urban Sahavas, and

With all love and Jai Baba to you,

In His Love and Service,

Bhau
